Four students from Vivekananda Polytechnic have come up with a one-of-a-kind invention to track down drunken drivers the invention of a special device called the D3 or Drunken Driver Dectector by a four-member group of students from Vivekananda Polytechnic is sure to scare the tipsy drivers out of their car seats. Siddesh Desai, Ankit Doshi, Chintan Jetwa and Siddarth Jadhav are the fantastic four students responsible for this novel idea and are pursuing their final year Diploma in Electronics and Video Engineering.Siddesh who has fitted the device in his car says, "D3 can detect alcohol content found in hard drinks. The device acts as a fuse between the car battery and the ignition system. If the driver of the vehicle is drunk then the kit installed in the vehicle which includes an alcohol sensor will automatically sense the alcohol fumes and display the message on the Roll N Scroll Board fixed behind the driver's seat stating 'Driver of the vehicle no ----- is drunk'. The circuit will cut off the supply between the battery and the ignition thus bringing the vehicle to a complete halt." His friend Ankit clarifies, "The kit will sense only pure alcohol fumes generally found in drinks. The sensor cannot detect negligible quantities of alcohol found in car perfumes, cough mixtures etc." The students began their spade work for this unusual project almost a year ago but their actual work of assembling the kit began six months ago.
